In addition to being a professional photographer, I am also a professional marketer and a music lover. With this project, I was able to combine all three interests.
Chagall Guevara was a band that was formed by Steve Taylor, Dave Perkins and Lynn Nichols in 1989. They produced one massively critically-acclaimed album. In fact, Rolling Stone magazine said at the time, “Not since The Clash has a group so effectively turned militant discontent into passionate rock & roll.” High praise indeed.
But as sometimes happens, humans got in the way of the success the band should have enjoyed, and they disbanded for good – shortly after their debut.
Cut to 2020. During the pandemic, idle hands became the devil’s workshop, and Chagall was miraculously raised from the dead. They finished and released their second album and they released their 1991 live album thirty years after the show occurred. Here’s the story of my involvement in that resurrection.

They gave me incredible access, and I took full advantage.
